Travelling against Government advice?

We will not pay for or reimburse any costs under any section of this Policy when after the Issue Date on Your Certificate of Insurance, You start a Trip against the following advice:
an Australian State, Territory, or the Australian Federal Government or an Australian government agency (such as DFAT) have issued a travel advisory warning, advising You to ‘Do Not Travel’ or that borders are closed, for the destination You planned to travel to. Please refer to who.int, smartraveller.gov.au, dfat.gov.au or other government sites for further information. This exclusion applies even if You have been granted a travel exemption by an Australian State or Territory, the Australian Federal Government or an Australian government agency (such as DFAT) to travel.

When am I covered?

Period of cover

Please refer to the definition of Period of Insurance.

If during the Period of Insurance, You travel:

  • on an airline that is not a Scheduled Flight, or
  • in a covered location (within any Geographical Region) for which You do not have cover,

this insurance cover will be suspended when You check-in for that flight or while You are in a covered location for which You do not have cover for. Cover will resume when You disembark from that flight and/or arrive in a covered location for which You do have cover.

Period of Insurance means:

(a) for a Journey,

  1. in respect of claims arising from Loss of Deposits and Cancellation Charges under Section 4, the period starting from the Issue Date and ending at the time You complete Your Journey or the end of Your Period of Insurance as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance, whichever is the earlier;
  2. in respect of all other cover, the period starting from the Start Date, and ending at the time You complete Your Journey or the end of Your Period of Insurance as shown on Your Certificate of Insurance, whichever is the earlier; or

(b) for a One Way Trip,

  1. in respect of claims arising from Loss of Deposits and Cancellation Charges under Section 4, the period starting from the Issue Date and ending at the time You complete Your One Way Trip;
  2. in respect of all other cover, the period starting from the Start Date, and ending at the time You depart the airport at Your Destination.

Journey means the period commencing at the time You leave Your Home to start Your Journey to which this Policy applies and ceasing at the time You return to Your Home, provided the Journey commences and terminates while this Policy is in force, and has a Destination outside Australia in one or more of the covered locations within Your selected Geographical Region. The maximum period for any Journey is ninety (90) days.

One Way Trip means the period starting from the time You leave Your Home on Your Scheduled Flight to which this Policy applies and ceasing at the time You arrive at Your Destination, provided the trip commences while this Policy is in force, and has a Destination outside Australia in one of the covered locations within Your selected Geographical Region.
